International exhibition

Muswellbrook Regional Art Centre will present an exhibition of drawings by #fridaysketchclub, an international group of artists who met through their activity on Instagram and who, using the popular service, have developed supportive artistic friendships across national borders. The group, started by Australian artist Rebecca Rath and American artist Jon Hayes, is composed of painters from Australia, The United States, England, Canada, Norway, and France. The artists post their works on Instagram weekly with the hashtag #Fridaysketchclub. The group’s purpose is to provide a forum for the presentation of new works which are open to commentary and criticism. Professional or amateur, anyone with an Instagram account may post work. Ms. Rath of Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, feeling that an “offline” showing of works stemming from this association of international talent would be of interest to the community, approached director Brad Franks at Muswellbrook Regional Art Centre. The #fridaysketchclub exhibition was realized. Boasting 12 international artists, the exhibition provides an overview of contemporary drawing practice as developed through this unique social media phenomenon, Instagram. Ms. Rath invited the initial members of the group to send 2 drawings to the centre where the works would be framed and exhibited until September 14th. The exhibitions will feature works by Ms. Rath, by American artists Paul Mordetsky, Joy Thomas, Jon Hayes, Brian Martin, Curtis Jensen, and Jacob Pinto, Norwegian artists Terje Thomassen and Anne Karin Kristensen, English artist Caragh Savage, French artist Jérôme Royer, and Canadian Reza Doust.
